Native to Texas, Darla grew up in Houston and La Grange. She always says she had the best of both worlds, the city life and the country life. Fun Fact! Darla earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston, and while there published an article, The La Grange Chicken Ranch Revisited. This article would win her 2nd place upper division in the C.M. Caldwell Memorial Award. Presenting the award to her was the infamous news reporter, Marvin Zindler, and actor Dom Delouise, who portrayed Zindler in the movie, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
